On July 22, 2020 the rescue community lost Donna Hirtriter. She was met at the bridge by her Danes Zacky, Sera, Murphy and Turtle.
Donna will be missed by many but mostly by me.

Early morning December 16, 2018 my Phoebe crossed the bridge and joined her buddies.

Phoebe came to the rescue almost 12 years ago from North Carolina. Her breeder had no use for a deaf puppy and she was due to be killed. Once here, her gentle nature and friendly personality stole my heart and Phoebe found her forever home. Even tho she didn’t know the meaning of agression, every dog that found their way into the rescue was immediately put in their place by her so they knew she was the boss.
This year has been the toughest but at the same time I feel lucky to have had the company of Mia, Delilah and Phoebe for so long. Sept 2006 - Dec 2018

On April 7, 2018 Delilah said goodbye and slowly walked across the rainbow bridge.

Picture
Delilah came to the rescue sick and amaciated and almost didn’t make it thru the nite but she fought hard and survived as did her two sisters. She ended up in a wonderful home but her parents had to move into a motorhome and Delilah came back to me. Here she stayed and enjoyed her life with Mia, Phoebe, Gaby and Harley. I will miss your short bursts of sillyness right before meals where you would start knocking things over and of course your barking at anything that moved on television. 9/2006 - 4/2018

In memory of my Mia......you were a true gentle giant.

Picture
MIA CAME TO THE RESCUE IN JULY OF 2010 WHEN SHE JUST TURNED 2 YEARS OLD AND ENDED UP STAYING BECAUSE OF HER GENTLE NATURE. MIA LOVED PEOPLE AND KIDS WERE ABLE TO GIVE HER BELLY RUBS SO THEY COULD FEEL AT EASE WITH HER SIZE. MIA WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LIVER CANCER LATE NOVEMBER AND SURPRISED US ALL BY MAKING IT THRU THE HOLIDAYS WITHOUT ANY DISCOMFORT AND STILL ENJOYING LIFE. ONLY THE LAST 2 DAYS OF HER LIFE IT WAS TAKING A TOLL SO WE SAID GOODBYE JAN 10, 2018
I WILL MISS YOUR HEAVY LEAN AND EVEN DELILAH WILL MISS YOUR OCCASIONAL BULLYING.

IN MEMORY OF ELSA.................I'LL MISS YOU.

Picture
ELSA WAS THE FIRST DANE IN OUR RESCUE AND FOUND HER FOREVER HOME AND BECAUSE OF HER MANY DANES WERE SAVED AND FOUND THE HOME THEY SO DESERVED.
ELSA WILL BE MISSED BY MANY BUT MOST OF ALL BY ME.   05/25/2001 - 01/29/2010

IN MEMORY OF AMY

IN MEMORY OF KAHN........YOU WILL BE MISSED.

DUE TO UNFORSEEN COMPLICATIONS, ON FEBRUARY 8, 2011, KAHN LOST HIS BATTLE TO AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE. HE WAS A TROOPER DURING ALL THE POKING AND PROCEDURES HE ENDURED DURING HIS LAST MONTH. I WILL MISS HIS DEEP RUMBLE AND HIS HELP WITH KEEPING ALL THE RESCUE DOGS IN LINE. YOUR LIFE WAS CUT WAY TOO SHORT.

Complete your life and adopt a Great Dane.

Hello and welcome to Indian Dane Rescue. We are a volunteer organization whose mission is to find forever homes for those abused and/or unwanted dogs.  We specialize in the well being and temperament of these gentle giants which enables us to place and/or help prospective families make an informed decision on choosing their new best friend.

We encourage you to come and visit, get acquainted with the breed, play with them and ask all kinds of questions about them. We want you to be comfortable with adopting because we want the dogs to go to a forever home.  We offer a friendly environment with a no obligation visit.  These dogs are truly amazing and this would be an experience you will never forget.
